Are you afraid to go to the dentist? Sedation Dentistry may be the answer.
September 5, 2017
Are you afraid to go to the dentist? Have you postponed dental care? Dental phobia is described as an irrational fear that causes someone to avoid the feared experience of visiting a dental office. Dental anxiety can get in the way of much needed and required oral care. Sedation dentistry is an effective way to help you get dental care while removing the fear, pain or anxiety that comes with it.
Sedation dentistry may not be required for every visit and Boyse Dentistry will work with you to determine what is best and most comfortable for you. A relaxing and pain free dental experience can be had with Sedation Dentistry.
Here are a few common Sedation Dentistry questions:
Is sedation dentistry safe?
Sedation Dentistry has been available for many years now and has been widely studied and is deemed safe and effective based on clinic research. Dental sedation is very predictable in the response that you'll get but before starting any treatment, Dr. Boyse will review your medical history and any current medications that you may be taking. You will be monitored very closely while you’re under sedation.
How long does the sedative last?
Boyse Dentistry will choose the oral medication based on the length of the procedure. Sedation wears off for most patients as soon as administration of the medication is stopped, while others may still feel its effects for hours after the appointment. For your safety, we do require that you have a friend or family member drive you home.
Will I have memory of my visit?
No. You will feel totally relaxed and afterwards you will have little to no memory of visiting the dentist. Your visit will feel like minutes versus hours. This is why Sedation Dentistry is so effective.
Can sedation be used for exams and cleanings?
Yes! Sedation can be used for all visits including dental cleanings, exams, cavity fillings, teeth whitening and more. Dr. Boyse will meet with you first to determine the right plan of action to ensure Sedation is right for you.
